Lodge Lane Nursery

GROUNDWORK Cheshire’s environmental business service has been working with Lodge Lane Nursery, in Vale Royal, to help them find an eco-friendly solution to the large amount of garden waste it was producing.
The nursery was keen to find a greener alternative to burning its garden waste and following a Groundwork resource efficiency audit one recommendation made was to invest in a chipper to turn the waste into mulch so it could be reused. Sue Beesley, owner of Lodge Lane nursery, had previously looked into buying a chipper but had not had the funds available, so Groundwork helped find some funding to part finance the purchase of the £650 chipper, which will potentially create an annual saving of £360 and two tonnes of carbon dioxide. Sue Beesley said: “Groundwork has been extremely helpful. As a business we were keen to manage our waste in a more efficient and environmentally friendly way and the support Groundwork has given us has certainly allowed us to do this.”
