Environment

‘The environment is everything that isn’t me’ Albert Einstein.

You may not realise it, however your business will be under pressure from the environment. This pressure will not come through the post with a label attached saying ‘environment please apply to pressure points’, it will have a range of tags such as ‘climate levy’, landfill tax, ISO 14001, fuel duty, congestion charging and customer standards.

The pressures exist and are being applied in the corporate world. It is not possible to ignore them, and unfortunately your cannot package them up and return them to sender. This leaves you with one option, and that is to manage these pressures in order to reduce your business’s risks and make sure you benefit from these pressures by responding pro-actively.

Although issues such as climate change, global temperatures increasing to +3°C in the next 100 years, biodiversity loss and pollution may seem distant to the day to day running of your company. If you are not responding to the pressures these issues are resulting in, it is likely you competitors will be.

Companies who do not respond to these pressures will find themselves having to accept the full impact of new ‘eco’ taxes and regulations resulting in increased business costs.

For companies who do not respond proactively to demands by customers for environmental, health and safety policies and standards such as ISO 14001 access to supply chains from the public sector and large companies will become increasingly difficult.

However, support and help is at hand from Groundwork’s e3 service. Our mission is to support businesses to improve their competitiveness through working towards and achieving environmental excellence and efficiency. We like to think that our service does what it says on the tin!
